Bridges can hold one or more false teeth, and are held in place by the neighbouring teeth. Sometimes the neighbouring teeth (one on each side) will need to have crowns fitted to make them strong enough to support the bridge.
Dentures can replace any number of missing teeth, and are removable. Modern techniques mean they fit far better than they used to, and look far more realistic too.
Bridges and dentures are both available on the NHS, but the materials used are limited. Some patients prefer to pay for private bridges or dentures to achieve a more realistic look or a more comfortable fit.
More information about partial dentures and dentures can be found on the British Dental Health Foundation's website.
